Canon expands its range of mini DV camcorders with new additions to the family. The new Canon MD265, MD245 and MD225 camcorders introduces Canon’s new powerful Advanced Zoom that combines the quality of a genuine Canon video lens with the power of Canon’s proprietary DIGIC DV processor that results in 45x magnification.
“With the upward trend of filmmaking and home video, users are looking for quality camcorders that are easy to use.” says Andrew Koh, Director and General Manager of the Consumer Imaging and Information Division at Canon Singapore. “Canon’s new range of mini DV camcorders offers something for everyone and makes a better video so much easier to create; allowing them to share their stories and preserve those precious memories.”
Magnificent magnification
The new camcorder series comes with Canon’s new Advanced Zoom technology that achieves a higher 45x zoom magnification and better image quality than conventional optical zoom functions – all this in cinematic 16:9 widescreen format. This is achieved through the concurrent use of the optical zoom and digital zoom, boosted by larger recording pixels.
In addition, the new mini DV camcorders offer 37x optical zoom with Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) that helps to keep video footage steady, even when the Advanced Zoom feature is engaged.
Capturing all the details
The new MD camcorders benefit from Canon’s True Wide High Resolution 16:9 recording system. Each camcorder also incorporates a widescreen 2.7″ LCD that allows users to capture stunning, panoramic movie footages.
Camcorder users also need not have to worry about carrying an extra video light around as the LCD screen also offers enough illumination that acts as a secondary video light.
When shooting in a dim or low-light environment, users can simply flip the LCD screen over for an instant video light that will help to produce detailed images even when the environment is dim.
Coupled with Canon’s DIGIC DV image processor and the quality of a genuine Canon lens, both video and still images are optimized separately to deliver the best results for each media.
Value-added Features
For users who also enjoy shooting still images, the Canon MD265 camcorder shoots and stores 1.07-megapixel images on SD Memory Cards.
For those who want to shoot documentaries or news interviews, the Canon MD245 and MD225 camcorders come with a microphone-in jack that allow users to connect an external microphone.
High quality visuals are a given, thanks to Canon’s DIGIC DV Image Processor that ensures that both video and still images are optimised to deliver the best results for each medium.
Benefits of MiniDV
MiniDV tapes offer large storage capacities to capture high-quality digital video (DV) footage, with 60 minutes of recording time at Standard Mode.
MiniDV tapes are widely available from retail stores, and are affordable too, making the the new camcorder series ideal for overseas holidays.
A wide range of video editing software work well with camcorder footage and these can be easily transferred to any computer via firewire connection for editing or to a DVD recorder for duplication.

Churches Catching Up with Technology
06/01/08
We are sure avid church goers would be familiar with the physical money baskets for donation. But have anyone of you out there experience being able to donate online minus all the hassle of having to fork out cash? With credit cards getting more and more prevalent, this is a very good idea. And also, a step further in telling that technology is being accepted.
cnn.com - No cash for the collection basket at church? No problem.
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati has made online giving an option for its 230 parishes and 110 parochial and diocesan schools in its 19-county region.
“It’s a way to make things a little easier for people and for them to be a little more regular in their giving to the church,” Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk said.
The new way, he said, won’t replace the old: the collection basket during Mass.
With the online donation option, the diocese joined a growing group of churches nationwide that are using technology and the Internet to make weekly giving easier.
Churches say high-tech donations are a response to changes in society, with fewer people carrying cash and using credit and ATM cards and the Internet to make transactions.
Churches in St. Louis enlisted online charity firms, and others, including in Georgia and California, have used ATMs placed inside the church.
